my mother's honey flakes
Photobucket
are like crack.

ok ok, before people start stoning me, here are two photo posts

expired raya post and my first time at Ichiban Boshi with ain!

speaking of ain, a week after we had sushi i received a package from her (which she actually sent a few days before we met up, stupid singpost) so thanks again ain! one of the things in the package was this cute as hell notebook
Photobucket
which i have already started using as an arty photo album. i have so many notebooks (maybe one day i will take a picture of them but yeah, there's def more than 20 of various shapes and sizes)
i cant help it, they are my weakness!

last friday my mom came back from the supermarket (she took a half day off to ZzZzZ) with a bunch of bananas and ordered me to make my banana white choc chip muffins. which i was only happy to do, of course. its nice to have a tried&testedtasted go-to recipe for anything
Photobucket
i also decided to try out my new mini loaf pan (from daiso!)
doesnt my banana 'bread' look pretty?

Bello Facial Wipes, my new cheap item of obsession
Photobucket
i picked these up while shopping at mustafa center last saturday. $1.95 per packet (30 wipes in each) it is soooo good if like me, you are lazy and too much of a cheapo to actually buy a make-up remover. can i add that i dont actually use these to like, wash my face or anything but mostly to remove my eye makeup (one swipe and everything is gone, promise!) smells fresh and come on, how cheap are they?

speaking of mustafa center, this is what me and nabillah had for supper afterwards (walking around in crowded areas makes us hungry and we skipped dinner so.....
oi to the world!)
Photobucket
we ate most of it while watching 2 bujang lapok movies and while balqis snored lol

yesterday me and amalina went over to johor to eat and shop but mostly to eat. we reached aeon jusco at almost 4 and were famished as hell! we settled on Ichican Ramen (ikr, 2 ichiban references in one post lol) mainly because we were like "oooh ramen not made with pork broth!" but also because did i mention we were famished as hell? we both ordered the Spicy Chicken Ramen and this is how it looked like
Photobucket
best.ramen.i.have.ever.had.
ok so what if i've only had ramen twice prior to this and both times it sucked hardcore? let me rant about ramen ten. when it first opened there was the hype of ~halal ramen~ and of course with all new halal joints my mom was eager to try it out. my food was not good. it was really not good. fast forward a few years and my mom and i were shopping around town, we got hungry and she suggested ramen ten and immediately a warning bell rang in my head. but i decided to give it a second try and of course it was still bad. so moral of the story is to not give ramen ten a try.....or two. back to this malaysian ramen. oh my god it was soooo good. 15RM for a giant bowl (it was a really generous serving, after i finished my noodles i realised that i still had a huge chunk of chicken left) and that's what, $6.50? the soup was very delicious, spicy but definitely not overwhelming. urgh, im having cravings for it again. help!

speaking of malaysia, besides having the most annoying taxi driver ever on our way back to the checkpoint (he insisted that there wasnt an mrt station at woodlands. erm, cik i think we would know better right), our journey back to singapore was perhaps the worst hour i've had in my life in recent times. so listen, on our way there there wasnt a jam so i should have known my luck would run out by the end of the day. i was right! the bus terminal at the checkpoint was so crowded, it was impossible to move! then amalina suggested something which till today i had no idea why i agreed to. we decided to.....walk back to singapore. erm, hello, huge achievement can! if you need to know one thing about me, know this. i hate walking. i derive no pleasure whatsoever in it. if i could afford one (and if i wouldnt mind the inevitable stares) i would probably get a segway like gob! so yeah, i huffed and puffed my way across the smelly sea and reached singapore drenched. i would rather eat at ramen ten than ever do that again (see this is how much i hate walking!)

i want to end this post on a positive note so this was what i had for ~tea~ today

i have been without sleep for... 33 hours? today i started 'work' (helping out my lecturer with his indie film) and yes, i went to a paying gig on no sleep at all. but i was fine. why? i forced my mom to make me her infamous lethal as hell iced coffee. i think because of that i can probably stay awake for a good 5 hours more? i would love to (can watch the tv shows that i downloaded this past week!) but alas, tomorrow brings another day of shoot. and the day after next. and so on till next monday! yikes. oh well, i could use the experience and any money coming in so yeay for that. plus after tmr the shoots are in the mornings! and no i do not mean when the sun is shining ever so brightly (stupid matahari) but when only owls are apparently awake. the crazy insomniac in me is rejoicing as you can only imagine.

ok the point for that long paragraph is to distract myself (and others) from the fact that i actually wanted to post up basi as hell raya photos (i managed to resize/photoshop everything on tuesday but as usual, been putting off actually posting them lol) and i also have to postpone baking! i originally wanted to bake cinnamon buns this weekend (i bought the yeast and everything!) and since i cant i am sad =(

dear friends, if you dont see or hear from me this coming week, do not fear. i am here (but im mostly not.)

yo i'll tell ya what i want
what i really, really want
Photobucket
i want a bicycle!

seriously, i really want one. i had one a long time ago, my dad never fully explained why it's gone but i have come to realise at this mature age that he threw it away. i highly suspect my mom to be the ringleader in this one, she was always complaining about it taking up too much space in the balcony!

the bike of my dreams looks like this;
Photobucket
ain't she purdy?

wah i really want one! will probably be impulsive and use the gahmen $ to buy it soon.

i'm officially done with raya, yeay! i actually got quite a bit of money this year (most of which are...gone lol) so that was pretty embarrassing. the cookies and suji i baked are gone so at least i know no one hates them. went raya visiting yesterday with the lovelies and we ended up soooooooo stuffed. here's the breakdown of what we had;

amalina's place - steak + wedges + garlic bread + salad
nabillah's place - gado-gado
my place - spaghetti bolognaise
kham's place - meehoon goreng + ayam goreng
balqis's place - roti kirai + chicken curry + ayam goreng (yes, again!)

kenyang giler can! the funniest thing was when we were at amalina's house, her mom was saying she prepared some light dishes for us but when we got to the table, it was freaking steak lah lol. thank you mothers for the food and hospitality, we really needed a hospital bed after all that makan2.

speaking of food, here's what i've cooked/baked last week;

over roasted lamb chops with vegetables
Photobucket

more white than black choc chips blondie

can i just say how much i love the phoon huat at toa payoh? im so used to the one at hougang (small and cramped as hell) that the size of the one at tpy got me so excited. planning to buy more pans and muffin cups, i want to bake cinnamon buns next!

family members and friends, you'll be happy to know that i have started Mission Resize/Photoshop Raya Photos. 208 in total, only 38 done so far. kill me now!

Public Service Announcement
1 album you should be listening to

Only By The Night - Kings of Leon

this album was released late last month but it leaked way before that so suffice to say i have been listening to it pretty much every night. my 2nd favourite album of theirs to date! (fav would be Aha Shake Heartbreak) one thing i love about KoL is that their music (very much like The Strokes) is always evolving yet they manage to somehow preserve their unique sound. although i must say, i do miss them looking like unwashed hippies sometimes (they currently look like this hot mess). i uploaded my favourite song from this album, Use Somebody, and because im in a linklinklink mode, here's the video to their first single from the album, Sex on Fire. also, check out their alternate album cover

2 tv shows you should be hooked on

Flight of the Concords / Mad Men

everybody knows my obsessive nature when it comes to tv shows (a self proclaimed tv show connoisseur, if you will [hah!]) so im going to take it upon myself to make sure people know of these shows! this week in tv shows you've probably never heard of, flight of the concords and mad men! really though, i did not expect FoTC to be as funny as it was so that was a pleasant surprise. mad men? wicked good! (how can you not love a cast that looks like this) set in the 1960s, it has lots of male ego, sexism (the females in the show are either trophy wives or secretaries lol), office affairs, you get the drift. i cant help it, im into wit and sarcasm. also i have a sorta crush on christina hendricks! she's damn hot can (both on and off the show)

3 books you should be reading

Paint it Black / Sticky Chewy Messy Gooey / Anybody Out There?

look, i am no ~keeper of the literary arts~ but i do read quite a lot so from one humble common reader to another, im going to remain impartial and choose 3 different types of books. a book for those interested in engaging the intellect, a visually appealing book that everyone can enjoy and a guilty pleasure book for chicks (and ummm the random homometrosexuals i guess). i really enjoyed reading Paint it Black (i first read it when i was in kl last dec) in fact i am re-reading my favourite parts of the book now (which i do a lot) and i think Janet Fitch (who also wrote White Oleander [maybe you've heard of the movie adaptation]) is so great at creating characters that are not necessarily of the norm but are still relatable to the average person. i actually prefered this book to white oleander (the book, not the movie although i have a perfect josie tyrell in mind if they make this into a movie - Shannyn Sossamon! she might be busy though, being the mother to a son named Audio Science and all) when i was working at borders, if i had some free time i would sneak-read the sticky chewy messy gooey book and torture myself by looking at all the food porn that was in it. growling stomach aside, i want the book! dear friends, my birthday is in less than 3 months *cough cough* wait, i turn 23 in a few months?! *seizure* moving on, lol chick lit. ikr, but forget all the preconceived notions you have about these books and ignore that rephrensive feeling at the pit of your belly. give in to the warm embrace of books that allows you to live your highly girly fantasies vicariously through them. back to Anybody Out There, i couldnt stop crying while reading it lah! i started off confused (like ?huh? kind of confused) but when the OH moment had elapsed, i was a blubbering fool.

4 movies you should be watching

Boy A / Charlie Bartlett / Henry Poole is Here / Away from Her

i just want to say that Boy A was the best out of this bunch. amalina! you will enjoy this movie because it's based on a book that was inspired by this. Charlie Bartlett & Henry Poole is Here were both fun movies (although the latter had a slightly more serious back story to it), an ideal mix of satirical humor and good ol' 'nice guys dont always finish last' characters. i sobbed at some parts of Away From Her (but i kinda do the sobbing thing a lot so...) the film is like a more intense version of The Notebook without all the drama of young foolish lovers. to be fair if you want a feel good comedic movie you should check out The House Bunny. i watched it with nabillah just now and we were laughing a lot so thats a good sign i guess.

see this is what happens when you cannot sleep! oh well....my loss (of zZzZz) is your gain (of hmmm, general knowledge?) lol i feel so productive! but not productive enough to photoshop and email out raya fotos (sorry family members...although not really.)

i made a shitload of cookies last week
Photobucket
ok i probably shouldnt use the term shit in a sentence where food is involved but it really was a lot! generic bite sized crunchy choc chip cookies (i am a soft/chewy cookie lover but my mom insisted i make them crunchy this time "nanti orang ingat lemau" =/) gave most of them away to my nyai and nani so im hoping no one gets food poisoning from them or something lol.

Photobucket
me and the penguin went to little india just now for some lady business and we stumbled upon the deepavali bazaar. this indian guy came up to us and asked me why my camera was so big. ermmmm, we politely walked away (what was i supposed to say right) it was so hot just now and we walked from tekka mall to mustafa center! made plans to have usman sometime soon
(serious butter chicken/qeema/cheese naan withdrawal)

Photobucket
a couple of months ago, my mom and i managed to bully my dad into buying us pillows and bedsheets (we spent so much that we are now aussino members! lol i wish i took a photo of my dad when he was at the counter paying. well, he started it by saying he needed new pillows! must be fair right, all for one, one for all heh)

today (just now more like it) i managed to somehow.... clean my room! oh my god i even mopped under my bed(the dust was...let's just say there was a lot of dust) but i should clarify that my cleaning ritual only comprises of wiping the dust off things, sweeping, mopping and changing of sheets so it wasnt that hard i guess but as usual i took forever (i got distracted maybe 87 times?) cleaning while my laptop was blasting my 90s pop music playlist was the shit, i must have wailed at least 4 backstreet boys songs (wait, didn't it rain for a while just now?)
oh well, my room is spic and span now so all is good!
Photobucket
i really love sleeping on new sheets after a long shower. its so gratifyingly... good. stretch stretch stretch, yawn, fall into deep slumber. if only falling asleep were that easy every night.

besides the food later on, i am also looking forward to seeing this
little makcik in a baju kebaya.
Photobucket
like, how can she be any cuter?

i'm typing this with a towel atop my head (post spring cleaning shower mah) and a pore pack on my nose but all i can think of is.....ayam masak merah & nasi tomato
here i come!
